Forme Evolutae part II: Specimen Archive

The Clinical Phase
The Clinical Phase reorients the project from the observation of spontaneous mutation to the ethics of extraction. While the preceding works documented the violent resilience of life in the deep sea, this archive examines the physiological consequences of a biology that can no longer subsist without intervention. Central to this inquiry is the framework of Palliative Ecology. This phase proposes that the toxicity of the Anthropocene has rendered traditional conservation obsolete, replaced by a darker necessity: the artificial management of decline. The specimens presented here exist in a state of indefinite life support, stripped of their autonomy and tethered to industrial respiratory systems. This is the maintenance of a biology that has become incompatible with the world it inhabits. The work positions the archive as a hospice, where the machinery of preservation becomes the sole apparatus preventing biological collapse. It documents the necessary integration of respiratory bypass systems and structural prosthetics—industrial mechanisms grafted onto biological tissue to replace failing organs. Here, the technological graft it’s the baseline requirement for a life that has been rendered clinically dependent.
